Niagara Falls (A Natural Beauty)

Being one of the largest waterfalls in the world, the Niagara Falls

forms an international border between the Canadian province of

Ontario and the American state of New York. We had only heard

about the mighty Niagara Falls and seen its beautiful pictures

before. From Orlando, we took a flight to Buffalo to reach Niagara.

Once we reached there, we were surprised by the breathtaking

view of the cascading waterfalls. For entering Niagara Falls it costs

$30.95 for adults and $25.95 for children and seniors.

Niagara Falls is actually a combination of three waterfalls namely

the American Falls, the Horseshoe Falls Bridal Veil Falls. Niagara

Falls is known for its scenic beauty and as a valuable source of

hydroelectric power. The brilliant scientist, Nikola Tesla, dreamt of

generating energy by harnessing the power from the waterfall. He

thought that if he could generate electric power from running water

and transmit it to long distances, it would help reduce poverty and

misery. Today, the Niagara Falls is considered to be a major source

of hydroelectric power in the state of New York producing more than

2.4 million kilowatts of energy per day.

Niagara Falls was not always as we know it today. In mid-19th

century, several heavy industries and mills crowded the shoreline

near the Niagara Falls in order to take advantage of free power

Thus began the Free Niagara movement. In 1885, the movement

finally succeeded in turning it to a state park, the oldest in the

country today.

During our visit to Niagara Falls, we enjoyed the pleasant weather.

The temperature was around 10-12 degrees Celsius and we felt a

bit cold. The area was totally covered in mist. We got a close view

of the Niagara Falls using a pair of binoculars. The view from the

binoculars was awesome, The best part of the trip was our visit

to the Cave of the Wind. It is a natural cave behind the Bridal Veil

Falls. The cave was about 130-feet high, 100-feet wide, and 30-feet

deep. The view was so amazing that we ended up clicking a lot of

photographs there.

Even though we missed the Maid of the Mist ferry-ride, our trip to

Niagara Falls was enjoyable. A photo competition was conducted

by our Journey Mentor in which all of us took part. We ran around

to look for great locations and capture the moments in stunning

photographs. We also went shopping for gifts and souvenirs for

our friends and family members. The visit to Niagara Falls was

enjoyable, breathtaking, and mesmerising. Everyone should visit

Niagara Falls at least once in their lives, if possible.
